Recently, I’ve reviewed a couple of pairs of true wireless earbuds from 1MORE. Now it looks as if I might have another pair turning up on my desk before too long because today 1MORE has announced the launch of the latest version of its award-winning 1MORE EVO earbuds.

The new EVO earbuds build on the flagship predecessor and current ColorBuds 2 model. The EVO feature 1MORE’s proprietary QuietMax hybrid ANC (active noise cancellation) technology that can cut noise by up to 42dB. Six microphones are backed up by a deep neural network algorithm that’s designed to deliver crisp phone call quality.

The new earbuds use a 10mm DLC dynamic and low-distortion balanced armature drivers. The EVO’s dual-driver design enables the earbuds to reach a maximum frequency response of 40KHz, making the earbuds eligible for Hi-Res Audio certification.

The sound profile of the earbuds has been tuned by four-time Grammy award-winning sound engineer, Luca Bignardi. By working with audio engineers from Sonarworks, the 1MORE EVO earbuds use SoundID software to deliver a clear and punchy bass coupled with crisp vocals.

The EVO. from 1MORE are available in white and black colorways.

The EVO’s drivers produce a wide soundstage even at low volume levels. Thanks to support for the high-quality LDAC audio codec, the EVO can transmit over Bluetooth at rates of up to 990Kbps. This creates a detailed soundscape for more accurate music reproduction.

Alongside the EVO’s audiophile sound quality is an immersive ANC function. The EVO earbuds use 1MORE’s QuietMax technology with feedforward and feedback microphones in each earbud that capture ambient sound which is then subtracted from the music to deliver a more focused sound. The 10mm DLC dynamic driver generates accurate anti-noise signals that cancel out ambient sounds, enabling the EVO to reach an impressive 42dB of total noise cancellation.

The EVO earbuds also have an ‘Adaptive ANC’ function that can be toggled on or off using the 1MORE Music smartphone app or by a long press of the touch controls on the earbuds. This adaptive mode can intelligently detect ambient noise by using an algorithm. The amount of noise removed is adjusted automatically to provide the best possible listening experience.

1MORE's EVO earbuds have no fewer than six microphones for handling ANC and voice calls.

Along with an Adaptive ANC mode, the 1MORE QuietMax function also has other noise-canceling options including a milder ANC experience that provides a more delicate balance between ambient noise and in-ear pressure. There’s also a wind-resistant mode where the microphones can pick up wind noise and automatically suppress the noise to provide more musical enjoyment when cycling or in windy places.

As good as the EVO earbuds are at blocking out the outside world, sometimes it’s important to hear what is going on. To do this, the 1MORE EVO has two transparency modes. There’s a more traditional Pass-Through mode that lets in most ambient sound. This is particularly useful in situations such as heavy traffic where the user needs to be more aware of their surroundings. The EVO also has a Voice Enhancement mode that amplifies the frequencies of the human voice, enabling the user to hear what other people are saying or to hear important travel announcements.

A total of six microphones (three in each earbud) and an AI-powered DNN (Deep Neural Network) algorithm work together to filter out surrounding sounds and pick up the user’s voice during phone calls. A feedforward mic catches ambient noise and cancels out the upper frequencies, while the feedback mic takes care of the lower frequencies. The speech microphone then accurately picks up the human voice frequency and amplifies it with the aid of DNN, adding an extra layer of clarity so that every word is heard.

With up to 8 hours of playing time on a single charge, plus another 20 hours of backup power in the ... [+] charging case, the 1MORE EVO true wireless earbuds can play for up to 28 hours before the case needs to be recharged.

With a full charge of their batteries, the EVO can play for up to 8 hours before they need to go back into their case to be recharged. There are 20 hours of backup power in the charging case, bringing the total playing time to 28 hours. A 15-minute burst charge provides up to 4 hours of playing time, plus there’s support for Qi wireless charging as well as USB Type C.

Multi-point Bluetooth connections are supported enabling the EVO earbuds to be paired with two devices at the same time. This is handy if the user needs to connect to a work phone for voice calls as well as a personal phone for music or personal calls.
