Bose has long been a go-to brand when audio quality and noise-canceling features truly matter. When their QuietComfort line was launched in 2015, they took noise-canceling technology to the next level, and are still tough to beat when it comes to ambient noise options, full cancellation, and in-ear/over-ear comfort. Most sets of Bose headphones are highly water-resistant, have fast recharging times, and boast immersive sound quality.

You’re going to pay a premium for the name brand, but these are some of the most popular headphones in the world for a reason. These are our top picks for noise-canceling, sound quality, and staying in your ears during even the sweatiest runs.

If you’re springing for Bose headphones, you already want the best the industry has to offer. But you have options! Bose offers a “renewed” or “factory renewed” shopping option, which is their version of certified refurbished headphones and earbuds. You can also shop sales for discontinued colorways and models, and keep tabs on end-of-season specials. You’ll also get price variations within Bose's full-priced models, but at that point, you’re down to the nitty-gritty technicalities for sound quality and materials.

Since all of these headphones are made by Bose, are all wireless, and all have similar battery life, noise cancellation is the main determining factor when choosing Bose earbuds for running and working out. Do you want a snug fit with more effective noise cancellation, or do you want an open design that allows you to better hear what’s going on around you? Some models are built with security and sound isolation in mind, while others are made to better hear your environment. Your choice comes down to personal preference, though the more snug-fitting earbuds typically stay more securely in your ears during bouncy runs or workouts, and the more open designs have a less secure fit, but allow for greater situational awareness.

Bose makes a variety of headsets and headphones, but for this piece, we focused on wireless earbuds for running, with one over-ear pick for travel or stationary workouts. We wanted earbuds that would stay in your ears no matter how bouncy or sweaty the workout gets, and playback time that will get you through the longest of long runs. Each model is best suited for a certain category, whether you need in-ear stability or noise-cancellation options.

For when you really want to tune everything out, the Bose QuietComfort line is second to none. You’ll get incredible nuance and clarity to your music or shows, and dialogue for audiobooks and podcasts is crisp and clear. These come with a few options for eartips, each with a soft molded rubber attachment to sit in your ear for added security during runs or workouts. These have a water-resistance rating of IPX4, which means they’ll be fine in light precipitation or during a sweaty run.

These headphones offer six hours of playback per charge, but the case only supports two extra charges for a total of 18 hours of playback per fully charged case. For comparison, many comparable earbuds have three additional charges per case, so these require more time with the case plugged into a charger.

Sleek and secure, these tiny earbuds wedge into your ears for a stable fit without any pressure points. These stay in place on sweaty runs, with molded rubber tips that nestle snugly right inside your ear and don’t jostle out of place, allowing you to keep your rhythm without worrying about dropping an expensive earbud on the trail.

These earbuds also have excellent Bluetooth connectivity, connecting quickly and reliably to your device and staying connected up to 30 feet away. The voice calls are clear, thanks to the built-in mic, and they have on-unit touch commands to play or pause music and accept calls.

We do wish these had better playback time—with only five hours per charge, they won’t last on an all-day run, though you can get up to two hours of additional playback time with just a 15-minute quick charge. You only get two additional charges per case though, for a total of 15 hours of playback per fully charged case.

While these aren’t the sexiest earbuds on the market, thanks to a bulkier in-ear piece and the neck cord, they sure get the job done and stay snugly in your ears. These have the same IPX4 water-resistance rating as other Bose earbuds, and thanks to the attached cord, they’re really hard to lose track of.

These have an in-line mic and remote for controls, and a simple button on the right earbud will turn the unit on/off as well as pair it. These earbuds offer just over six hours of reliable playback time, and they fully charge in around two hours.

They don’t have the best noise cancellation or isolation on the market, but the sound quality is still solid, and we love that you can just loop them around your neck when you pull them out of your ear instead of hunting for the case.

The open design of the SoundSport Free means that outside noise passes through the earbuds, which we love for running on busy trails or in traffic, as they help you maintain better situational awareness than full noise-canceling models. This also means that you don’t get the most detailed sound from your music or shows if you’re in a loud environment, though you’ll still get that Bose-quality sound in quieter areas.

Like the other models on this list, these are highly water-resistant and fairly durable, though the open design means they don’t wedge in your ears quite as well as the Sport or QuietComfort models. These are also larger than other earbud models, so be sure to check out the fit and design before committing.

These have five hours of playback and two additional charges per case, for a total of 15 playback hours per fully-charged case.

These classic over-the-ear headphones might not be your top pick for running, but for travel comfort, long days, or more stationary workouts (indoor spinning, anyone?), they’re top notch and worth the splurge.

Thanks to 11 levels of noise cancellation, we can sleep soundly in transit while wearing these, no matter how much chaos is going on around us. For music and spoken word books and shows, the sound is crisp, has a range of depth, and is well-balanced.

One of our favorite aspects to these headphones is the all-around noise cancellation for phone calls, allowing the person on the other end of the line to only hear you, filtering out ambient noise, wind, traffic, and other conversations.
